Annual bilateral consultations with Mongolia held – US State Department

On September 14, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs David R. Stilwell and Secretary of State of Mongolia N. Ankhbayar held the 2020 Annual Bilateral Consultation (ABC).

This meeting represents the first alphabet since the announcement of the strategic partnership between the United States and Mongolia in July. This virtual event underlines the strength of our cooperation and shared values and provides an opportunity to reaffirm concrete steps in our bilateral relations, it said.

During this year, the countries have expanded their cooperation in multilateral forums, including the elections for the UN leadership. In the security and military spheres, relations remain active despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States and Mongolia have teamed up to strengthen trade and investment ties and have agreed to forthcoming additional dialogue to strengthen the economic partnership, the US State Department’s official website state.gov reports.

The United States and Mongolia share a deep commitment to democratic values enshrined in constitutions, such as human rights, religious freedom, and the rule of law. Bilateral law enforcement cooperation continues to expand, in particular on border security and transnational crime.

The United States is proud to have successfully trained over 1,000 law enforcement and security officials in Mongolia in areas such as investigative techniques, smuggling, and money laundering.

The extensive and active network of US alumni in Mongolia is a testament to shared values and experience, and we are proud to have so many alumni serving as leading members of Mongolia’s parliament, government, business and civil society.

These initiatives show that the relationship between the US and Mongolia has never been stronger, the US State Department claims.
